2025 Studio Policy & Guidelines

Welcoming you to the Uxbridge Music Studio!

The Uxbridge Music Studio is committed to first-rate music education. As a proud branch of the Grand Staff School of Music, we follow the same teaching principles that aim to give each student the best possible tools in cello and piano playing. Thank you for adhering to the studio policies. Communication is key to having a great learning experience and amazing progress in lessons. Don’t hesitate to contact the studio if you have any questions. Thank you!

Tuition and Fees Overview

Classes are 30-minute lessons, once a week. No refunds, credits or transfers. Payments are made by cash or e-transfer to: music@grandstaffmusic.ca Enrollment is not considered finished until the tuition payment has been received. The student is responsible for the buying of their own method books.

Understanding Tuition Benefits

Tuition reserves your child’s spot on the studio schedule. It includes much more than the lesson time spent with each student. Tuition covers preparation for each lesson. It also involves customizing lesson plans, as well as researching appropriate method books and supplemental music for the student. Planning and preparing theory games and activities to enhance lessons are included. Additionally, emails, newsletters, and parental support are part of tuition. Prizes, incentives, office supplies, and more are also covered.

Missed Lessons

  • It is your responsibility to be on time for each class. Time lost due to late arrival cannot be made up regardless of the reason of lateness. If you are more than 15 minutes late, the lesson is considered a “no show” and may not be taught.
  • Your lesson time is reserved just for you. A student who does not attend a lesson will miss the benefits of that lesson time.
  • If a student misses a lesson, there will be no refund, transfer or make-up lesson available.
  • If a lesson needs to be canceled due to sickness, I can provide an online lesson. Still, I need a 2-hour notice to prepare for the online lesson. If you do not let me know 2 hours in advance, I cannot give an online lesson. The student will miss the lesson. The teacher will use that time to plan for the student’s progress. This only applies to private lessons, there are no online lesson options or make ups offered for the Summer Piano Camp, group lessons and Preschool Piano.
  • If a student cannot attend a lesson because of bad weather or sickness, an online lesson will be offered. This will occur during the normal lesson time slot. I will contact you in the morning of your lesson. I will let you know if there will be an in-person lesson cancellation. This only applies to private lessons. There are no online lesson options for the Summer Piano Camp, group lessons, and the Preschool Piano. Make-ups are also not offered for these sessions.
  • It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to notify the teacher as soon as possible that he or she is canceling a lesson for the child.
  • Missed lessons due to a teacher’s absence will be credited at the end of the Term or Summer Camp, group classes, and Preschool Piano.

Key Responsibilities of Parents

Please make sure you are on time for your child’s scheduled lessons. Ensure they have used the washroom. Also, make sure their nails are clipped. Help your child find time for practice every day. Ensure they have a comfortable and quiet environment to practice. Practice times are recommended by the teacher. Encourage practice in a positive way and praise their efforts. Learning an instrument is a long journey of many ups and downs. Provide your child with opportunities to perform for the family or take your child to see live performances and listen to all kinds of great music!

Media Release

Photos and videos of students may be posted online on the Uxbridge Music Studio Facebook and Instagram page. Parents wishing to exempt their students from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request.

 Discontinued Lessons

Students are encouraged to commit to lessons for the duration of the term. They should work through the inevitable ups and downs inherent in learning to play an instrument. If discontinuation of lessons is necessary, the parents, students, and teachers should communicate thoughtfully. This will ensure that lessons end positively. A 30-day written notice is required on the 1st of the month prior to discontinuing lessons. No refunds are given for lessons that are not taken. There are no refunds for the Summer Piano Camp program and Preschool Piano. A respectful environment between the parent, student and myself is essential to my studio. This studio reserves the right to let go of any family for lack of respect to myself. Families may also be let go for not making payments on time. Not abiding by the studio policy is another reason for dismissal.
